Zechariah 13:1-2

These verses speak of a comprehensive purification of the nation through the removal of the idols that were worshipped in the pre-Islamic era. This indeed happened through the Prophet Muḥammad when he conquered Mecca and liberated it from the rule of the polytheists who worshipped idols, false gods, and stones. When he entered Mecca the Ka‘bah was surrounded by many idols, numbering 360.

He began piercing them with a stick in his hand while reciting the words of Allāh the Almighty: “And say: ‘Truth has come, and falsehood has departed. Indeed is falsehood, [by nature], ever bound to depart.’” [Al-Isrā’ (The Night Journey), 17:81]; and His saying: “And say: ‘Truth has come, and falsehood can neither begin [anything] nor repeat [it].’” [Saba’ (Sheba), 34:49]. Those idols fell down, were broken, vanished, and their names were forgotten. With this, the banner of polytheism was broken and weakened, and the banner of monotheism and the worship of Allāh alone were raised high.

The meaning of His saying: “and also I will cause the prophets... to pass” is that the laws of the prophets were abrogated by the law of Muḥammad.

Therefore, Muḥammad is the last prophet, confirming those before him, and he came with the seal of the divine laws. The Qur’ān is the last of the divine books; the books before it are either distorted or lost.

As for His saying: “and the unclean spirit to pass” refers to the filth of polytheism, which has indeed departed, as mentioned. This aligns with what is stated in the Qur’ān, that polytheism is filth.
